I have a lot to say about this “press for latkes” emergency button. Like, for instance, how. And why. Mainly how.
But peeps, I have zero time today. Because it is Hanukkah, and Hanukkah is “go time” for a Jewish lifestyle blog such as the one you are ON.
The point is, I’m gonna come back and edit this post with more information on the why eventually. I promise. But in the meantime, let’s talk how, just in case there’s anyone else out there who feels that they must have a latke emergency button of their own at ONCE. Scroll for the supplies list and basic how-to.
I do also want to note that this was inspired by these Lisa Golightly champagne buttons. Thanks, Lisa!
(I can’t actually be sure if Lisa is a real person or just the name of a brand, but I feel thankful to her nonetheless.)
DIY “Press for Latkes” Button
What You’ll Need:
- A vintage-style picture frame
- Alphabet stamping kit and ink pad
- Thick paper or cardstock
- Round push button
- Glue gun
What You’ll Do:
- Trim the cardstock to fit the frame. Remove the glass and set aside so that you can reuse the frame for something else in the future.
- Use the stamps to write “PRESS FOR LATKES” (or “PRESS FOR…” whatever you want), remembering to leave a large space in the middle for the push button.
- Glue the button to the paper by applying a thin layer of glue to its outer perimeter, pressing to secure, and letting dry.
- Place the cardstock into the frame; remove the picture frame stand to hang on the wall or keep it as is to place on a table (ideally next to a big pile of latkes in a latke bar!).
