I know you’re not planning on hosting people anytime soon. But NO MATTER. These little DIY place cards are so cute, you’ll probably want to make them just for your immediate fam. Or…just for yourself! WHY NOT?!
It’s 2020. There are no rules.
These guys were, in fact, initially crafted to be part of my 2020 Hanukkah tablescape. But there’s nothing seasonal or Hanukkah-specific about them, which means they’re perfect for just about any seated dinner, birthday party, or holiday meal.
Oh, and novice stampers (aren’t we all novice stampers?), don’t worry too much about making the letters perfectly symmetrical. A little topsy-turvy-ness is all but expected here, because keeping those alphabet sets organized is a near impossibility. But that’s actually my favorite thing about these. I love how the combination of lowercase and uppercase letters yields a delightfully haphazard, whimsical final result.
Alright. Let’s make ’em! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Blank place cards or small white gift tags
- Baker’s twine (I used this blue color here, but I also think this gray is lovely for year-round use and often use it as well)
- Mini alphabet stamps
- Black ink pad
Once you’ve got all your ducks in a row, simply stamp out the names of your guests, tie the twine through the hole in each tag / card, and secure it to the place setting. You can tie it to the bottom of a goblet, wrap it around a piece of candy, or fasten it to some other cute tchotchke that you can place onto each plate. Again, don’t worry about finding the proper “cases”—there’s something sweet about a place cards that lOoKs liKe ThIS.
(On second thought, the whole alternating case thing doesn’t quite translate to the blog. But…it’s cute when it’s stamped. You’ll see. 😅)
And that’s it! I hope this simple, inexpensive DIY helps you out when you’re planning your next dinner party…or imaginary dinner party, as it were. Here’s to gathering together in person one day soon (God willing!) and to putting these cuties to good use.
