  • Author: Rebekah Lowin
  • Yield: 1 "Valentine" 1x

Description

Easy sand art-style Valentines using all the flavors of classic everything bagel seasoning! *Please note that the “scale” feature on this widget won’t work properly for this recipe; you’ll have to make adjustments manually.*

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon dehydrated garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons black sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons white sesame seeds
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons dried minced onion

Other Supplies

Instructions

Using a funnel, pour the following quantities of the ingredients listed above into the test tube in the following order.

A few things to note:

  1. In order to get that fun “sand art” look, I’ve divided up each ingredient quantity into sub-quantities. Be sure to read each instruction carefully and not throw in all of this or that ingredient!
  2. Remember that both the size of the container and the order I’ve provided really does matter; you may not be able to fit an entire “batch” of the recipe if you don’t follow my lead here. Surprisingly, even swapping the order of two ingredients can make a difference in how it all fits! But if you don’t mind doing things over a few times and have some extra ingredients on hand, feel free to experiment and find other combinations that work well for you.
  3. Also remember, you’ll need to leave room for the cap! Don’t get too excited and pour in too much toward the end.
  4. Finally, between pours, I recommend tapping the jar gently to make sure each layer settles in an even layer.

First (The bottom-most ingredient!): 1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds
Second: 1/4 teaspoon dried minced onion
Third: 1/2 teaspoon dehydrated garlic
Fourth: 1 teaspoon salt
Fifth: 1 teaspoon black sesame seeds
Sixth: 1 teaspoon white sesame seeds
Seventh: 1 teaspoon poppy seeds
Eighth: 3/4 teaspoon dehydrated garlic
Ninth: 1 teaspoon black sesame seeds
Tenth: 3/4 teaspoon dehydrated onion
Eleventh: 1 teaspoon white sesame seeds. But this one can be tricky! I recommend pouring in 1/4-teaspoon increments, continually checking whether or not you’ve got enough room to get all of the final teaspoon into your jar. If there are any larger chunks of onion or garlic in the mix, you may find it tough to fit all of the poppy seeds in along with the cap (remember, you need a little room left over to fit that on top!).

Finally, cut a length of string and tie stamped tags to each vessel, first decorating them with the word “everything” and whatever everything-related pun/wordplay moment you love most! I used a black felt-tip pen for the smaller letters and stamps for the “everything” part.
