Say that twelve times fast. (The “Friday night frights” part.) (Never mind, it’s weirdly easy.) (Kind of ends up sounding like “steak and frites” for me?)
Well, so much for starting this post without a rambling intro that has nothing to do with anything. Let me try that again: Hi! Thanks for being here. Today we’re going to talk about a few Halloween Shabbat menu ideas—or “Challahween” Shabbat, if you will. I’ve already posted a ton about Halloween Shabbat on my main Halloween ideas page, and have discussed it so much over on Instagram that I fear I’m giving all of my followers Tevye’s-dream-style nightmares. (There’s been a lot of Fruma Sarah talk. Am I sorry? No.)
But! Since Halloween really does fall on a Saturday this year, and since so many of you have expressed interest in actually going full-out for this year’s festivities…I thought I’d quickly round up a few more Halloween Shabbat recipes out there. Hopefully, scrolling through these gives you some sense of what a Halloween Shabbat menu might look like.
Of course, as with any made-up holiday based on a mash-up of two other holidays, there’s really no precedent to follow here, nor are there any real rules. You don’t have to incorporate any of the following foods into your dinners, nor do you even need to follow a theme to host a wacky, memorable Halloween Shabbat. It’s really the spirit of the thing that counts.
If these particular recipes do get you excited, though, I’d love to hear about it! Drop me a line on Insta and let me know what you ended up making.
