Odds are, you found your way here from my 2021 Rosh Hashanah tablescape post—and if you didn’t, I actually suggest popping over there first to see how these printable worksheets fit into a larger honey tasting theme. Because that’s really the way they’re intended to be used: as helpful props for a tasting!
But just in case your mouse is broken and you aren’t able to click links and/or you’ve only got two minutes to spare before your High Holiday guests arrive, let me bring you up to speed. For starters, let’s talk about what a honey tasting is. You’re familiar with wine tastings, right? Well, a honey tasting is pretty similar conceptually: It’s a sensory experience designed to educate participants and help them appreciate all of the different types of honey out there. Because just like wine, honey does, in fact, have a diverse enough flavor profile to qualify as an excellent subject for a tasting. And as with wine, it’s even possible to taste different nectars and infer regional and environmental differences within honeys. There are thousands of plants around the world that produce honey, so there are thousands of different tastes to experience—from blueberry to orange blossom and wildflowers and alfalfa and buckwheat and WHEW. Really. Thousands.
Anyway, after I discovered this, I became quite obsessed with the idea of hosting my very own honey tasting. And thus these cute worksheets were born. I just love how they look all stacked together like that, loaded with honey in all different hues and tastes and origins.
I’ve made that same honey tasting worksheet printable available below; see the last page for printing directions. You’ll notice that I’ve included pre-made sheets with options for including 3, 4, or 5 different honeys, so if you’re not into the idea of investing in a ton of honey, you can still make this happen with a few less varieties. The tasting spoons and tasting glasses are also easy enough to find online.
And any honey will do! You can invest in kosher options from a local apiary or grab several different options from all over the country or world (there are tons of Israeli apiaries specializing in wildflower honey).
P.S. There’s lots of other Rosh Hashanah inspiration waiting for ya on the blog right now! I’ve got Rosh Hashanah quotes, poems, desser ideas, cocktails, place cards, table decorations, and tons of other holiday ideas.
