Last year, I posted a photo of a similar topper sitting pretty on my Rosh Hashanah challah, and you all seemed to really like the idea. So it stuck! Ever since, I’ve been dreaming up different ways of making these so-called challah toppers, and my baking adventures have been all the better for it. Specifically, I wanted to find an easier way to get something like this on your tables. Because, admittedly, last year’s DIY effort was a little time-intensive (unless you owned a fancy Cricut or other paper-cutting machine, that is). And I wanted to get more people in on the challah topper craze.
So…I came up with this! I’m so proud of it, and a little exhausted by it. And I just hope you’ll forgive me when I explain why it’s, um, accidentally more unattainable than last year’s topper.
See, this year, there is a little less cutting and gluing involved…but only because I actually created this topper with the help of a local laser-cutting business. I was planning on releasing it here on the blog as my first-ever for-sale product, and was quite excited about it, but with shipping delays as bad as they are, it was nearly impossible to get it up on the blog in time to ship it out to all of you. It was a little disappointing, but I was mostly just so happy to have gone through the process of creating the initial item. I learned so, so much along the way. And there’s always next year.
Anyway, I thought I’d share it with you here regardless, just to give you a behind-the-scenes look at what’s going on in my blog brain. You can think of it as a prototype of sorts.
And I’m curious: Would you be interested in more shoppable items like this as well as my usual DIYs? I hope you’ll leave a comment letting me know—I’d love to hear from you. If you’d rather share your thoughts privately, you can always chat with me and the rest of my community in my Facebook group.
Either way, there are tons of other projects and ideas on the site right now. I’ve got Rosh Hashanah quotes, Rosh Hashanah poems, Rosh Hashanah desserts, Rosh Hashanah cocktails, place cards, table decorations, and tons of other holiday ideas. Enjoy enjoy!
