Oh my goodness. I can’t believe it’s almost OCTOBER and I’m only just posting my first apartment post. 🙈 (I guess technically it’s my third. But the other two were more introductory so I’m not sure they count.)
In any event, here we are—talking about real apartment things! I haven’t uploaded anything formal and fancy here on the blog because…there’s really not much to share just yet. Covid shipping delays mean we still don’t have a ton of furniture, and I want to wait until each room at least has the basics before I photograph anything. But there is one element I’m ready to chat about: lighting! I posted about each of these lights Friday morning on Instagram, and had no clue they’d be such a conversation starter. I got a crazy number of DMs about shopping information and thought I’d answer in the form of a post over here. Below, you’ll find all the lights we’ve swapped into the apartment so far.

This is our new kitchen light, the Savoy House Calhoun 18″ Pendant. Probably the most asked-about light after today’s posts. I, too, am OBSESSED…but in all honesty, this one was a headache to install. It took hours. Getting it up into the ceiling was easy enough, but maneuvering the glass part onto the fixture was nearly impossible. We actually almost gave up and shipped it back. Luckily, we didn’t, because eventually we got it and it looks incredible. I’m thinking we should have put the glass on the light before installing it. Whoops.

This lovely light’s now hanging in our “nook” room—the tiny, what-the-heck-do-we-do-with-this space next to the living room! (I actually do know exactly what I’m going to do with it, and I couldn’t be more excited about it, and all will be revealed soon.) It’s the Elegant Lighting Mila 3-Light 12″ Pendant. I actually really enjoyed installing it (whaaat?!). Honestly, the crystals were fun to put up and it just wasn’t a huge hassle. I also like that each one is flat and untextured—it looks a little more modern that way, and again, I’m hoping to strike that balance between modern/traditional here.

For the foyer/entryway, we swapped out the modern-looking silver fixture for this Hope for Flowers by Tracy Reese Flushmount. My personal favorite of all of the lights. It looks exactly like it does in the photos on the site and goes so well with the chandelier in the dining room (#2 above). It’s also available on Pottery Barn Kids—check both links because the prices and sale prices seem to vary between the two sites, even though it is, to my knowledge, the same light with the same dimensions. (Going to talk about this in another post, but I buy so many home accessories from kids/teen/baby furniture stores because the prices are always, always lower.)

Above each of the medicine cabinets in both bathrooms, we replaced the existing flourescent fixture with this Abud-Aleem Dimmable Vanity Light. I can’t say enough good things about this one. It was easy to install, it looks gorgeous, and it really strikes the perfect balance between contemporary and classic. Also, the bronze is deep and not gold/yellow in the slightest, which I love.

In our dining room, we’re leaning towards this one—the Maxim Lighting Elegante Etruscan Gold Chandelier. We haven’t installed it yet, though, because it’s definitely a bit more of an orange-y gold than it appears in the manufacturer photo (always a bummer), and so we’re going to go over it with a coat of craft paint to dull it a bit before hanging. But it’s undeniably beautiful. Very Anthropologie-ish. We have a lot of clean lines and neutral fabrics going on in the space so far, so I like that this adds some character and whimsy without totally diverging from the overall scheme.
And there you have it. We’ve got some rugs and bigger items coming in over the next month or so, so I’m looking forward to sharing more with you sooooon! Until then, hope your holidays were wonderful, and see you on the ‘Gram.
